A good sleep routine is one of the most crucial elements for boosting your productivity, well-being and happiness. Choosing the right bedroom decor can help relax your mind and significantly increase sleep quality.

  1. Paint your room zen.

If your room isn’t already a calming colour, changing it is the fastest and the most effective thing you could do. Choose relaxing colours like light warm grey, beige, white or off white, as well as a green or black accent wall. Read more about How Colours Affect Your Mood.

“Colours, like features, follow the changes of the emotions,” the artist Pablo Picasso once remarked.

2. Consider artwork.

Choose the art that calms you down. For me, it’s nature, meditation and simple lines artwork.

If you fancy that sort of vibe, take a look at Barbulianno’s Printable Wall Art — it symbolises the connection between us and nature.

3. A good quality mattress is a must.

I always say, if you are going to splurge your money on something, it should be a good mattress. You can do all the decor bits right, but if your mattress is uncomfortable nothing will compensate.

4. Soft light

Lighting Science’s Good Night light bulb claims to eliminate up to 95 percent of the harsh blue light that is said to stop the production of melatonin ( a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle). If we go way back, when there was no electricity, people would read under candlelight. Anything that mimics that sort of light softness would be a good choice for a relaxing environment.

5. Essential Oil

Choosing the right scent it can slow the activity of the nervous system, improve sleep quality, promote relaxation. Scents like: Lavender Oil, Valerian Oil, Clary Sage or Bergamot. My favourite one is 100% Pure Bergamot Oil from Nikura, Etsy.

6. Long Linen Curtains

Make sure your curtains are long enough to block all the light when needed. I love the natural feel of linen curtains. How gorgeous are Handmade Stone-Washed Linen Curtains from Magic Linen.

7. Go natural.

Cotton and linen duvet cover is perfect for keeping your body temperature at a comfortable level during sleep. And if you need extra heath simply layer-up.

8. Embrace green friends.

Plants boost your mood, productivity and creativity. They reduce noise levels, stress, depression and respiratory difficulties. Learn more about How Important are Indoor Plants and How to Choose the Best Ones.

Every night before sleeping I leave the window open for about 20 minutes to allow oxygen to circle. I cannot describe how much it improves my sleeping.

I know it’s hard, but try to stop browsing through social media just before sleep. Instead play some relaxing sounds like ocean waves, bird sound or whatever helps you drift away. If that’s not your cup of tea, how about reading a good book — something light.

Wish you all a wonderful week!

Love,
